- Chairman’s Report
Nick Gossip reminded the meeting that during the year we had lost our long term President and motivator Vic Loveless and more recently, in fact the last few days, a long time committee person Dave Hurrell had also passed away. Nick asked the gathering for a minutes silence to remember Vic Loveless, Dave Hurrell and the many other New Forest crickets who passed away in 2018.
After the one minute silence Nick said he was pleased to report that the committee had approached Ray Mortimer to be our President and was very happy to say that Ray had accepted. He asked the meeting for the formality of a show of hands to accept this nomination. The vote was unanimous. He went on to say that Ray Mortimer had proposed as his first official action as President he would sponsor the Presidents Cup cost of umpires and trophies for 2018.
Nick said the past year had been difficult for some clubs and he was sadden to see the Pavilion at Swan Green had been demolished as it seemed so final.
He thanked Sway for doing a marvellous job at hosting the Stone Cup Final, not only was the weather excellent so was the Bar-B-Que and the clubs hospitality. In the final Brockenhurst were victorious over Lyndhurst & Ashurst, in a well contested game.
A change of venue for the Presidents Cup Final was require and New Milton agreed to host and although New Milton were finalist their opponents Sway sportingly agreed to the change of location and date. New Milton were worthy winners and again proved to be very good hosts.
In closing he wished all clubs a good and successful season in 2019
- Treasurer’s Report
The Association’s Accounts for the period ending 31st December 2018 were circulated and explained by Tony Leadbetter. Overall Income for NFCCA was £1455 and Expenditure of £1251.52 giving a surplus on the year of £204.48. Tony explained that we have just one Bank account which is shared with the NFJCA. The Balance for the joint account at 31st December was £4463.60
Our bank the HSBC at Totton has closed so the preferred method of receipt and payment is via BAC’s
The Accounts were accepted as a true record. Proposed by Tony Wharton and Seconded by Ron Biddelcombe. (Accounts balance sheet appendix 1 attached)
Alan Sturgess told the room that in past years we had charged clubs for entry into the Knock Out cups and that the entry fee covered umpiring cost for a number of games. At the start of the next competition some clubs would receive a small credit and some, mainly finalist, had to pay a small top up.
He requested that as this year we have sponsorship for both Presidents Cup and Stone Cup completion that the balance form the last two years, a sum of £170 be rolled into the general account for simplicity
This was agreed with no objections.
- Secretary’s Report
Alan Sturgess said he had nothing to report to the meeting. However he did thank the Member Clubs Secretaries for their support in communications via email.
- Umpires’ Report
Tony Leadbetter reported it had again been a busy year and all the competition requirements had been covered. However the rearrangement of the Presidents Cup final which took some sorting out due to the Football World Cup finals in Russia. The Final, which at one point was umpire less, was eventually covered due mainly to cancellation of matches elsewhere.
- Knock Out Cups
This year’s competitions will be free to enter as Umpires and trophies cost are covered by sponsorship. (See Treasurers report above)
Tony Wharton asked if the matches had to be played on Monday Nights. It was agreed that providing the two clubs involved were in agreement the night could be changed. However this should also be agreed with the Competition Secretary Roger Porter and the Umpires representative Tony Leadbetter.
It was stated that Monday was the traditional night for the NFCCA KO matches and would remain the prime evening.
